A Day in Paris

Paris at last.

So much to do in one day.
We had a chance in the afternoon of the previous day to see Notre Dame.
Notre Dame Cathedral, glorious in the afternoon sun, spires reaching high, rose window glinting, songs and hands bringing the stone to life, making the one of my favourite churches extra special.

The day started early. We were right in the centre of the city.

We walked to the Louvre and lined for a long time to begin out arty outing. It is impossible to see everything but we did our best to pick out our favourite pieces and then to peer over a sea of people to glimpse the famous examples: the Mona Lisa, The Winged Victory, Venus de Milo.

The Tuileries was our lunch venue, then on to the long walk down the Champs Elysees. They were preparing the streets for the Tour finish. I wish my father could be there to see it.

Cleopatra's Needle loomed high against the clear blue sky, out of place against the road works and intricate statues.

As we approached the Arch de Triomph, there was a fly over - so many planes! So much noise! So impressive over the Arch! And we were there to see it.

The Eiffel Tower was even more impressive than I imagined it to be. The crowds were thick and the scammers interspersed the queues.
The Tower reached high overhead and entranced us with strong girders and intricate lacework.

The River Seine is wide and lovely. As we walked back more scammers approached us, wedding parties posed near golden statues, and the wind blew softly through the trees.
The riverboats were busy about their business and the gold statues glinted in the afternoon sun.

  1. That singer would have made the experience of Notre Dame all the more lovely.
