Bath is on our way to the Cotswolds. The ancient site was favoured by original land owners and farmers and wanderers, then very old town dwellers, then later made very popular by the Roman inhabitants. After the Roman empire declined public bathing went out of fashion and the site fell into disrepair and was forgotten about for hundreds of years. They were revived, much sought after for health reasons, and now are a very popular tourist destination. Jane Austen had rooms in Bath for some years before settling in Chawton.
The main bath is green and warm. It is surrounded by colonnades and artefacts. 'Roman' sculptors and tradesmen are set up demonstrating how things would have been in the 4th century AD all in best of British, Cockney and Welsh accents.
There are many rooms to the east and west of the bath, the original spring and dip pools. The displays show animated reconstructions of what life might have been like and how the bath and pools functioned. It was much more than a place to get wet.
Isn't it a pretty town? :)
