A Day in Derry

The town of Londonderry - Derry, has a large walled city centre, the old walled city, a reminder of 'the troubles'.

Derry is a pretty town, peaceful and lacking the disturbing under currents of Belfast. we are on the centre of the city and can walk to the most scenic and historic places.

The wall is high and thick, with battlements and cannons. It is also wide and is a major thoroughfare for pedestrians.

Interspersed along the walls plaques commemorate events of 500 years ago, information summarizing key battles and changes to the wall itself.

The outskirts of the city can be seen easily, the uniform buildings and the free flowing. The names of the streets echo past uses, like Artillery Street.

A sense of humour and goodwill, artistry and beauty seep through the cracks in the wall.
