A Day in Cesky Krumlov

Cesky Krumlov is a medieval town with more art, prettiness and scenes from fairytale books than can be imagined. It is one example of a place that is much prettier than any postcard, with tall spires, cobbled streets, a town clock and a castle on a hill.

The Pied Piper, the Frog Prince and all the other fairy stories from my childhood could have been set in this place.
Our Penzion was filled with antiques that captured the more recent past and kept us captivated indoors too.
In the town, a sensory delight met us at every corner with sights, smells, tastes and sounds that were foreign but at the same time somewhat familiar, having been borrowed and filtered across many lands.

There is a river wrapped around the town, a bear 'moat', acres of castle garden, bridges and a tortury.

We traipsed up every street and cobbled alleyway, walked through the castle grounds, ate  in a dungeon and admired every arty nook and cranny that we chanced upon.
