The sky was just beginning to become light in Kong Kong as we headed for the airport. The lights of the tall buildings, pretty against the mountains and sea.
The flight to London took 12 hours and sometimes we dozed, otherwise we kept ourselves amused with movies or eating.
Heathrow airport was not nice after the lovely, helpful, calm Hong Kong airport. We had a 6 hour wait for the flight to Vienna. It was busy, fat and ugly.
The British airways flight to Vienna took two hours and the plane headed into the sunset - the end of a very long day - 20 hours in all.

Kerrie, the flying experience is beautiful in itself. Most people hate the long haul, but to sit down for 24 hours, eating, drinking, reading, watching films... ahhhh... bliss. If that is, you can rest on the flight. By the way, watching those flight screens is a killer!
ReplyDeleteHeathrow is a killer, isn't it. 6 hour wait!? Yuk
Heathrow is a horrible airport isn't it! So old and grubby. With long longs and mean staff who interrogate you. Just wait until you actually try and go into the country. They will badger you for ages about what you're doing, where you're going, how long you're planning on staying, etc, etc, etc.
ReplyDeleteAt least you didn't have to sleep on the Heathrow floor. That's unpleasant!!
Compared with Hong Kong and Korea, the western countries are unfriendly, uncaring, brash and rude. We have so much to learn. The transport system is almost impossible and no one wants to know about stranded tourists perplexed by mazes ans no signs, In Hong Kong there was an escalator attendant to direct you, and very obvious signage. LOVE IT. Austria, Czech - even information desks they don't want to know you let alone look up from their busy work to answer questions. Yet to try to get into England...
