Day 3 of our Tour of Taiwan

Up over the mountains
to Alishan
 where tea is grown
 Oolong
grown here only

then to blossoms at the top of the mountain
 turning to green now
but still a few to be found
 tall trees
cypress and cedar and hinoki
500 years for each growth ring
some very very old...
(one 2300 years)
 and very very big...
mostly gone to Japan last century
 clouds coming in
 more blossoms

the trees stand firm because of intertwined roots

Jo tribe man in deer skin clothes
they hunted in the forests

 two sisters loved one man
they jumped off a cliff and left two ponds behind

the train takes us down the hill
 to the station

and on our way home we are taught how to brew and serve Oolong tea
