We have chosen to go on a fun tour of Taiwan - our first organised tour. A good choice, Peter "Pan" and Mr Square picked us up in the mini bus - we are the only people on the tour - VIPs.
"Aunty" packed us a delicious steamed bun for breakfast.
The traditional food of the local tribe was a feature at the village and was delicious.
These seed pods have large black seeds that are used for massage.
We saw many examples of architecture - deserving a special entry.
There is a town that has a brewery for Taiwanese wine and it had a display of the processes used to create the wine and spirits.

The highway system is such the all roads north to south are odd numbers and east to west even. The cities have an interesting pattern too. Taipei = Tai north, Tainan = Tai south, Taidung = Tai east, Taishi = Tai west and Taichung = Tai centre and that is where we are headed today. We saw the long highways elevated over fields, towns, construction sites and a graveyard caught our eye.
Our first destination is to Sun Moon Lake, with spectacular views and indigenous culture's displays of dancing, food and history.
There is a big pagoda on the top of the mountain overlooking Sun Moon Lake, the gong can be heard as people reach the top and play.
At the top of the pagoda, the descending clouds brought rain, but Mr Square (far left) was at the bottom of the pagoda with umbrellas! Bless you Mr Square. The traditional food of the local tribe was a feature at the village and was delicious.

Some unexpected highlights - eating baked sweet potato from a vendor on the side of the road, sampling many different foods and tasting peanut ice cream at the brewery, being brave to eat local food and loving how so many people get along with each other so nicely in this most friendly of countries. I am feeling very much at home in a very foreign place.
